Project report GreenH2SZ
Publication / 07/2023
At what cost and with which technologies can green hydrogen be provided from overseas in Salzgitter in 2030 to produce green steel? What technical challenges and energy losses occur in import chains with ammonia or methane as hydrogen transport medium? Which ships are available for hydrogen transport? And at what cost, on the other hand, can hydrogen be produced directly in Lower Saxony?
In the “GreenH2SZ” project of the Hydrogen Campus Salzgitter, led by MAN Energy Solutions and Fraunhofer IST, solutions are being identified and evaluated as to how a sufficient green hydrogen supply from own production and imports can be realized for Salzgitter by 2030. This reflects the European Union’s market ramp-up targets of 20 million tons of hydrogen availability in the EU by 2030, half of which will be imported via international supply chains. In the project report, you can learn more about the costs and market availability of the necessary technologies and infrastructure for hydrogen import via Wilhelmshaven to Salzgitter, as well as regional plans and next steps to be able to use hydrogen to decarbonize the industrial and mobility sector in Salzgitter.
